Mules

Women's mules are shoes closed at the toe and open at the heel, made to be slipped on and worn out the door. At THE ATTICO they become something more precise: clean proportions, materials that catch the light, heels that range from the most discreet to the platform. They are the shoe that finishes a look without taming it, from the aperitivo into the night.

Born from the eye of Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini, the brand's heeled mules, still called sabot by some, move across different registers with the same signature: satin, printed leather, jewel details. Every pair is made in Italy.

How to choose your mules: by heel and by occasion

The choice starts with two questions: how much heel, and for which moment. The collection holds three registers, from the discreet heel to the platform, and each answers a different occasion.

Platform mules: for the evening

The platform is the boldest choice. The front platform reduces the angle of the foot, so it carries heights a full heel would make unwearable: it is the technical reason a mule can climb past 130 mm and still last an evening. When the heel does this much, the rest of the look stays quiet.

In the collection: the ''Irmelin'' mule, 140 mm on a platform, in black and white zebra-print leather.

Mid-heel mules: from aperitivo to dinner

The mid heel is the most versatile register: it lifts the line and lasts a whole evening without asking for attention. It is the range where colour or material matters more than height, because the shoe does not need to shout to be seen.

In the collection: the ''Betta'' mule, 95 mm in warm fuchsia satin.

Jewel mules: when the detail is the look

Crystals, metallics, surfaces that catch the light. This is the range where height steps back and the finish decides: a low mule can be the brightest thing in the outfit.

In the collection: the ''Ada'' mule, 65 mm, glass crystals on silver satin.

Materials and craftsmanship: how THE ATTICO mules are made

Materials are not a finishing touch: they are the starting point of the design. Satin, printed leathers, jewel surfaces each behave differently under light, and every mule begins from the behaviour of the material that builds it, not the other way around.

Underneath, the construction is constant: leather lining and insole, leather sole. Every pair is made in Italy. A mule is watched as it walks, and that dictates every choice.

How to style mules

Mules follow one principle: the bolder the shoe, the cleaner the rest. The look is built from the feet up.

• With a print: solid volumes, no other pattern. The mule is already the look's design.
• With a solid colour: a dark dress or a neutral tailored piece. The colour rises from the floor and asks for no reinforcement.
• With crystals or metallics: matte fabrics around them. Reflective surfaces want the dark to switch on.
• The hem rule: bare ankle, or a trouser that ends clean above the shoe. Never fabric bunching over the instep: the mule lives on the heel left free.

Frequently asked questions about women's mules

What are mules?

Mules are shoes closed at the toe and open at the heel, with no back strap. They slip on without fastening and, depending on heel and material, carry from the aperitivo into the night. In the THE ATTICO collection you'll find several heights, from the discreet heel to the platform.

What is the difference between mules and sabots?

None, in terms of shape: open heel and covered toe. Sabot is the traditional word, mules the one in current fashion use. This category carries every heel height available in the collection.

Which heel should I choose for mules?

It depends on the occasion. The platform is the boldest choice and stays wearable thanks to the front platform, which reduces the angle of the foot: it is the register of the evening. The mid heel is the most versatile and lasts a whole evening. The lowest heels are the most discreet in height, and that is often where the jewel finishes gather.

Are THE ATTICO mules made in Italy?

Yes. Every mule in the collection is made in Italy. The product pages carry the full composition of each model, from the upper to the sole.

Are platform mules comfortable?

The front platform reduces the angle of the foot: at the same height, a platform mule sits more comfortably than a full heel, because the platform recovers centimetres under the toe. It remains an evening shoe, not one for a full day.

How do you style mules?

With clean volumes that leave the shoe centre stage: the mule makes the statement. Prints with solids, full colours with dark fabrics, crystals and metallics with matte. Better a bare ankle, or a hem that ends clean above the shoe.
